Yes – will be working on work around sustainability, climate justice, and Indigenous self-determination

UVic prereqs – MA completed before PhD – strong background in Indigenous Studies/Politics

2. Do your potential students have the opportunity to work on a funded project
Possibly.

3. Is your program/work interdisciplinary?
Primarily focused within social work; opportunity to take electives in other departments (i.e. Indigenous Governance, Public Health, Indigenous Nationhood, Indigenous Education, Child and Youth Care, etc.) and to collaborate with other students and researchers in other health and helping disciplines. 

4. Are there any prerequisites for admission?
Admission to the Master of Social Work Indigenous Specialization (MSWI) or general Master of Social Work (MSWA) programs require either: 1) a Bachelor of Social Work degree; or 2) successful completion of a one year Master of Social Work Foundation (MSWF) program.  UVic admits MSWI and MSWF students in alternating years (i.e. MSWF students in fall 2021, MSWI students in fall 2022) and MSWA students every year.   Applicants interested in a SPARR PhD require a master’s degree preferably in social work.  More information about the MSW programs can be accessed here: https://www.uvic.ca/hsd/socialwork/current/msw/index.php

Probably Masters at this point

2. Do your potential students have the opportunity to work on a funded project? Probably – waiting for some grants to be reviewed but am hopeful I will have support for students

Yes, certainly. There is room for connections between medicine, community services, primary care, specialist care, nursing, social work, education etc

Masters or PHD

Yes, although many projects are not funded.

Yes. It depends on the project which discipline overlaps.

Pre-req’s set by the department of psychology (UofC)

Unsure. There is student housing on campus, I’m not sure if my department pitches in for moving costs.

Dr. Chris Westbury – University of Alberta

1. What level of students are you seeking? i.e. Masters, PhD, Postdoc
Both.

2. Do your potential students have the opportunity to work on a funded project
Yes. Most of our faculty are funded, researchers.

3. Is your program/work interdisciplinary? 
Psychology is inherently interdisciplinary. We have strong ties with the neuroscience program, the biological sciences, and computer science.

4. Are there any prerequisites for admission?

The University of Alberta has both student and family housing on campus. Moving costs are not covered.

Since I would not be representing myself but rather my department, a [slightly] fun fact about the department is that our undergraduate teaching is huge: we have nearly 13,000 undergraduate enrolments per year.
